How do the Alto Steps stay in place?
Included with each order is a roll of adhesive mesh that is widely available and has been in production for more than 25 years. It has a water-based adhesive that will not harm your wood or other materials, and will not leave a sticky residue. Follow this link to learn more about our Adhesive Kit. Regular carpet tape, available in most hardware stores, can also be used, although the adhesive used in carpet tape may affect your wood finish, especially after time.
A family member is afraid of slipping on the stairs. Will these help?
Yes. Both our Tibetan and hand-tufted Alto Steps, used with the adhesive, provide a skid-proof solution to stairs. Although Alto Steps are removable, the adhesive mesh grips securely under your weight with each step. Liza’s husband, who is with the volunteer ambulance, frequently runs down the stairs in the middle of the night while still pulling on clothes, and he has never had a problem!
Will Alto Steps help my dog or cat take stairs more easily?
Yes. We sell lots of Alto Steps to distressed pet owners. Whether your pet is old, disabled, or simply afraid of open risers, Alto Steps make stairs less daunting for your four-legged family members. And if your dog chews a rug? The beauty of Alto Steps is that single replacements are possible.
How do I clean my Liza Phillips Design rug?
Regular vacuuming is the best thing you can do for your rug. This will prevent dust and dirt from filtering through the pile, which can compromise the structure of the rug. For regular household stains, simply dab the stain with mildly soapy water and blot with a clean white cloth. For red wine stains as well as pet accidents, apply warm water and white vinegar. Blot to remove and repeat application. Avoid scrubbing the stain, as this can affect the texture of the wool. Our rugs can also be professionally cleaned.
What if I want only solid color Alto Steps?
We have several options for solid color steps. In some cases, a solid option is listed with the individual Alto Step designs. In other cases, we may have unadvertised solid Altos in stock. Call or email for details.
What if I need a custom rug?
Our weavers can produce rugs up to 30′ x 50′. Custom round and oval rugs, as well as irregular shapes, are available in both Tibetan and hand-tufted qualities. Custom orders usually take 12 to 14 weeks, but may be longer for complex designs and higher knot counts.
Do you offer a trade discount for designers and architects?
Yes. We offer a 20% trade discount on area rugs and 15% on Alto Steps.
Are your products available for wholesale?
Yes. We have wholesale pricing information available upon request.
Are Alto Steps available for spiral stairs or other triangular steps?
Yes, and no. Because the hand-knotting process is not well-suited to achieving specific angles, we do not offer Alto Steps for spiral stairs. However, we will be happy to discuss your individual needs for winders or irregular landings.
Can I see samples of your rugs?
Yes. At no charge, we offer swatch cards with attached yarns, showing the design layout of each set. For a nominal shipping charge and your promise to return them, we will send you actual Alto Steps, or woven rug samples.
What is your return policy?
If for any reason you are not satisfied with your rugs or Alto Steps, you can exchange or receive a refund, minus the shipping and handling charge. We encourage you to request samples when time permits (see question above).
I live outside of the United States. Can I purchase your rugs?
Yes, we frequently ship to Canada and Europe via UPS. Customs fees will be the responsibility of the buyer.
What types of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover orders over the phone, as well as checks. We can also send Paypal invoices.
In addition to Shimmo shown above, we also have new Barberry Alto Steps along with matching runners and landings. Barberry is part of our Black Sheep Collection using only natural sheep tones of black and white. They are hand knotted in Nepal at 100 knots per inch. Although Barberry is not a new design, we have never offered it in Tibetan quality rugs and steps until now.
