Hand knotted in Nepal at 100 knots per inch. Standard size 9×26 inches.
Nettle or “Allo” as it is known in Nepal is similar to Hemp in that it is a strong natural fiber used in fabrics, rope and hand made rugs. Entirely untreated and undyed, it has an earthy tone, slightly darker than hemp and not as ochre in hue. Nettle is slightly softer as well, and consequently it is easier on the weavers’ fingers.

Production

Made of the finest quality Himalayan wool, our hand-knotted rugs are made by Tibetans in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. The wool is rich in lanolin oil, which is important both for the absorbtion of the dyes as well as the plush texture for which Tibetan rugs are famous worldwide. Our manufacturers hand spin their wool and use traditional vegetable dyes or eco-friendly Swiss Ciba colors.
